The eight picks.

01
Andamen

Editor's pick

Andamen Egyptian Cotton Oxford

₹1,400 · 100% Egyptian cotton · Semi-spread collar

The best cotton on this list at this price point. Heavier weight than budget options, slightly slubby texture that reads expensive. Cut is slim through the chest without being clingy. Available in white, light blue, and Bengal stripe.

  • Egyptian cotton, holds press
  • Cut is genuinely Indian-shoulder friendly
  • Cufflink-ready French-cuff option available
  • Wrinkles fast — iron or dry-clean weekly
  • Sleeve length runs slightly long, hem if needed
02
Allen Solly

Safe bet

Allen Solly Slim-Fit Oxford

₹1,299 · Cotton blend · Spread collar

The default work shirt of corporate India for good reason. Cotton-poly blend wrinkles less than pure cotton, the slim fit actually slims (not just labelled "slim"), and the collar holds shape through a 10-hour day.

  • Iron-free up to 8 hours
  • Easy to find in every airport mall
  • Frequent Myntra discounts to ₹999
  • Cotton-poly blend doesn't breathe like pure cotton
  • Patterns can look corporate-generic
03
Van Heusen

Sharp collar

Van Heusen Cutaway Slim

₹1,499 · 100% cotton · Cutaway collar

The cutaway collar is what makes this shirt — opens wider than a standard spread, frames the face better, and is the right call for round and long face shapes. Cotton is full weight, no blend, holds up over years.

  • Full-cotton at price point
  • Cutaway collar frames the face
  • Branded but understated
  • Needs ironing every wear
  • Cutaway is opinionated — won't suit every face shape
04
Snitch

Trend pick

Snitch Premium Oxford

₹999 · Cotton · Slim semi-spread

Snitch took the Andamen blueprint and undercut it by ₹400 — the cotton is lighter, the cut is slightly slimmer, the price is honest. For the man building his first formal capsule, this is the place to start.

  • Lowest entry on the list
  • Cut is slim without being skinny
  • Frequent app-only discounts
  • Cotton is thin — bra/vest visible through white
  • Snitch return policy is exchange-first
05
Park Avenue

Workwear classic

Park Avenue Classic Fit Stripe

₹1,299 · Cotton blend · Spread collar

Park Avenue has been making the Indian businessman's shirt since 1986 and the formula still works — classic-fit cut for the slightly-fuller build, conservative collar, dependable stripes. Not a fashion shirt; a uniform shirt.

  • Better fit for over-40 builds
  • Stripe selection is genuinely office-appropriate
  • Stocked in every Reliance Trends
  • Classic fit reads boxy to younger eyes
  • Sleeves run long
06
Peter England

Value pick

Peter England Slim Oxford

₹899 · Cotton blend · Spread collar

Honest mid-range workhorse. Better cut than the Allen Solly classic fit, lower price, same fabric quality. The shirt you buy three of and rotate. Stitching is consistent, buttons don't pop after a year.

  • Best value per rupee on the list
  • Slim cut on shorter Indian frames
  • Sleeves stay crisp through a workday
  • Limited collar variations
  • White looks slightly creamy out of the bag
07
M&S

Premium feel

Marks & Spencer Slim Fit Oxford

₹1,499 (sale) · 100% cotton · Button-down collar

Catch on sale and it's the best shirt under ₹1,500 in India — full price it sneaks above the budget. Button-down collar reads sharp-casual rather than full formal; pairs with chinos as easily as with wool trousers.

  • British cotton quality at Indian sale prices
  • Stay-put button-down collar
  • 30-day return at any M&S store
  • Only at budget on sale
  • Limited stripe options
08
Bewakoof

Rotation pick

Bewakoof Premium Cotton

₹799 · Cotton · Spread collar

For the man who needs three more white shirts in his rotation without spending another ₹4,500. Build is lighter than the others but at this price you replace, not repair. Useful for sweat-prone summer months when you'd rather wash than dry-clean.

  • Lowest price worth buying
  • Machine-washable, no special care
  • Bewakoof app discounts often hit ₹599
  • ~9 months at daily wear before yellowing
  • Generic shape, no Andamen-level cut

Buying guide

Four things to check.

The pinch test

Standing in the mirror, the shirt closed, pinch the fabric at your sides at chest level. You should be able to pinch 1–2 inches of fabric. Less is too tight; more is too boxy. This single test catches more bad shirts than any other.

The shoulder seam

The seam where the sleeve attaches must land on the corner of your shoulder — the bony point. If it falls onto your bicep, the shirt is too wide. If it doesn't reach the corner, too narrow. Full fit rules here.

Collar shape by face

Long face → spread or cutaway (adds visual width). Round face → narrow point or button-down (adds length). Square / heart face → semi-spread (balanced). Oval → anything works. Find your shape →

Fabric and wash

100% cotton looks best, wrinkles fast, needs ironing weekly. Cotton-poly blends wrinkle less but breathe less — useful for hot Indian summers if you sweat heavily. Easy-iron / no-iron shirts use chemical treatments — they last 30-40 washes before the treatment wears off.

If we had to pick three.
