3D avatar portrait AI prompt

Turn one normal photo into a premium 3D character avatar — smooth shading, rounded forms, round dark-rim glasses, a clean white tee and a bright blue studio background. Stylised, but still recognisably you. Copy the free ChatGPT & Gemini prompt below.

3D character avatar portrait made with an AI prompt — a young man with dark voluminous wavy hair, round dark-rim glasses and a white crew-neck t-shirt on a bright blue gradient studio background
Made with the prompt below — stylised into 3D, with the real face kept underneath.

The one thing that decides this: your reference photo. Stylised 3D rounds your face and enlarges your eyes — the exact two changes that erase a likeness. A sharp, front-facing, evenly lit photo survives that. A moody, angled or filtered one comes back as a stranger.

Use image-to-image at a low transformation strength (0.20–0.35) and keep beautify off.

Create a polished stylized 3D avatar portrait inspired by the reference image, but use the same face and identity from my uploaded photo. IDENTITY — THE MOST IMPORTANT PART Preserve my real facial structure, skin tone, jawline, lips, nose, eyebrows, eye shape, hairstyle direction and overall identity. The avatar must stay strongly recognisable as me. Do not recreate the reference person's face. Use the reference only for style, framing, glasses, white shirt, blue background, soft 3D-avatar mood and lighting. SUBJECT A young male model transformed into a premium cute 3D character avatar, with dark voluminous wavy hair, a friendly confident expression, slightly enlarged but identity-consistent eyes, and round dark-rim eyeglasses. BACKGROUND A clean bright blue studio background with a soft gradient, darker saturated blue at the edges, a subtle vignette, and a gentle blue haze fading in at the bottom. WARDROBE A simple clean white crew-neck t-shirt with soft cotton texture and natural folds. STYLE High-end stylized 3D character render. Smooth skin shader, soft subsurface scattering, rounded facial forms, detailed hair clumps, glossy clear eyes, clean professional profile-avatar finish. COMPOSITION Vertical centered bust shot from upper chest to head, shoulders visible, direct eye contact, relaxed frontal posture, lower torso softly fading into the blue background. LIGHTING Soft large front key light, gentle fill, cool blue ambient light, clean catchlights in the eyes, and a mild rim highlight on the hair and shoulders. DO NOT INCLUDE No text, watermark or logo. No extra people. No full-body view. No distorted face. No exaggerated childlike proportions. TECHNICAL Disable automatic face enhancement, beauty filters and skin smoothing. Keep my identity from the reference photo strongly recognisable at every step.

About this prompt

Nearly every other prompt on this site is chasing photorealism — the red cinematic studio portrait, the candlelight close-up, all of them are trying to look like a photograph somebody took of you. This one deliberately does the opposite. It is the stylised 3D character look, the one that reads as an animated-film still, and the only other prompt here in that family is the mirror selfie cartoon stickers.

That difference is the whole reason the prompt is written the way it is. A photoreal prompt can afford a loose identity instruction, because the model is already trying to reproduce a real face. A 3D stylisation prompt cannot. The moment you ask for rounded facial forms and slightly enlarged eyes, you have asked the model to change the two features people actually recognise you by. So the identity block sits at the very top, before the style, and it lists the specific landmarks — jawline, nose, eyebrows, eye shape, hairstyle direction — instead of just saying "keep my face".

It is framed as a bust shot with the torso fading out for a practical reason: this is a profile picture. Most platforms crop to a circle, and a fading lower torso means there is no hard edge to cut through. Generate tall, crop square, and nothing important is lost.

How to use it

  1. Tap Copy prompt above.
  2. Open ChatGPT (image generation), Google Gemini or Nano Banana in image-to-image / reference mode.
  3. Paste the prompt and attach one clear, sharp, front-facing, evenly lit photo of your face.
  4. Set transformation strength low (0.20–0.35) and identity strength high.
  5. Generate at a vertical ratio — 4:5 or 2:3, 1080 px wide or larger — then crop square for your profile picture.

If it doesn't look like you

This is the failure that matters, and it is nearly always the reference photo rather than the prompt. Side-lit, angled, low-resolution and already-filtered photos all give the model too little to hold onto, and a stylisation prompt will happily fill the gap with a generic handsome face. Shoot or pick a photo where both eyes are visible, the light is flat and even, and nothing is covering your jaw.

The second fix is transformation strength. Most people leave it at the default, which is far too high for this. Drop it to 0.20 and generate again — you lose a little of the 3D polish and keep a lot more of your face, which is the right trade for a profile picture.

The honest check: put the result next to your original photo and look at the nose and the space between the eyes. Those two drift first, and once they have drifted, no amount of regenerating the hair or the glasses will make it read as you.

Making it yours

  • The background colour is one line — swap bright blue for anything. Keep the darker saturated edges and the vignette, or the avatar floats.
  • No glasses? Delete "and round dark-rim eyeglasses" rather than asking for "no glasses" — negatives are less reliable than omissions.
  • Change the white crew-neck tee to whatever you actually wear. A plain, solid, well-fitting top renders far better in 3D than a busy print.
  • If your hair is straight or short, edit "dark voluminous wavy hair" to describe your own — the prompt should follow your head, not the reference's.
  • Generate three or four and pick the closest likeness. It is much faster than trying to correct one that already drifted.

Frequently asked questions.

What is the 3D avatar AI prompt?
It is a copy-paste AI image prompt that turns one normal photo of you into a premium stylised 3D character avatar — the smooth-shaded, rounded, animated-film look — framed as a bust shot on a bright blue gradient studio background with round dark-rim glasses and a white crew-neck t-shirt. The whole prompt is built around keeping your real facial structure, so the result is stylised but still recognisably you.
How do I make a 3D avatar of myself in ChatGPT?
Copy the full prompt from this page, paste it into ChatGPT with image generation, and attach one clear front-facing photo of your face. Generate at a vertical ratio such as 4:5. For the closest likeness, use image-to-image or reference-image mode with the transformation strength set low, around 0.20 to 0.35, so the model restyles you instead of inventing a new person.
Why does my 3D avatar not look like me?
Stylised 3D is the hardest style to keep a likeness in, because rounding the face and enlarging the eyes are exactly the changes that erase identity. Three things fix it: lower the transformation strength, use a sharp front-facing reference photo in even light rather than a moody or angled one, and turn off any beautify or skin-smoothing option. If the avatar still looks like a stranger, it is almost always the reference photo, not the prompt.
What size should a profile picture avatar be?
Generate tall, then crop square. A vertical 4:5 or 2:3 image at 1080 pixels wide or larger gives you room to crop a clean 1:1 profile picture without losing the shoulders. Most platforms display profile pictures as a circle, so keep the head centred and leave a little space above the hair.
Can I change the blue background to another colour?
Yes. The background is a single line in the prompt, so you can swap bright blue for any colour without touching the rest. Pick a colour that contrasts with your hair and shirt, keep the darker saturated edges and the soft vignette, and the avatar will still read cleanly at profile-picture size.
Is this 3D avatar prompt free?
Yes, the prompt is free to copy and use. You need an AI image tool such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini or Nano Banana and one clear photo of yourself. There is nothing to buy.
